Festival du Livre from April 12 to 14 at the Grand Palais Éphémère in Paris

It's the literary event of the year for many authors and publishers, but also for thousands of visitors with a passion for reading. At the Grand Palais Éphémère in Paris, the Festival du Livre returns for its third edition from Friday April 12 to Sunday April 14. Conferences, book signing sessions, professional workshops... This meeting place brings the publishing world to life, with a different country chosen as guest of honor each year. In 2024, it's Quebec that has received this precious invitation.

The Festival du Livre, successor to the Salon du Livre

Fans can rest assured that the Salon du Livre and the cultural dynamic that accompanies it have not disappeared. The event has simply changed name and location. Indeed, after the cancellation of the 2020 and 2021 editions due to the health crisis, the Syndicat national de l'édition saw fit to bring about a renewal. The Salon du Livre, which made its first appearance in 1981, has therefore changed its name, but not its vocation. The event has also left Paris Expo - Porte de Versailles to join the Grand Palais Éphémère, as well as other prestigious venues in the capital for hybrid events outside the walls.

The Festival du Livre continues to pursue this ambition, initiated under another name, and continues to bring together and mobilize the entire publishing industry to promote books and reading.

After India in 2022 and Italy in 2023, Quebec will be the guest of honor at the 2024 edition. This marks the return of Quebec writers to the Paris event 25 years after their official presence at the Salon in 1999. A choice that promotes the French language and the discovery of new talent in the French-speaking world.

As Jean François Roberge, Quebec's Minister for the French Language, points out. "The Paris Book Festival will promote Quebec authors throughout the French-speaking world. This is no mean feat! Through our works, it's not only our literary talents that are showcased, but also our common language, which translates our vision of the world and expresses our culture."

A delegation of some thirty authors will be travelling from Quebec. Festival visitors will be able to discover established authors, as well as emerging talents.

"At a time when poet Hélène Dorion is the first living Quebec author to be included in the French baccalaureate curriculum, this honorary invitation is an excellent opportunity to take a closer look at French-speaking Quebec literature," explains Vincent Montagne, President of the Paris Book Festival.

The program was unveiled at a press conference on February 27. It will be available online on the Festival website in early March.
