Transition in aeronautics: a specialized Master's degree for engineers

Like all other business sectors, the aviation industry must also take climate change, innovative technologies and sustainability into account in all its operations. From aircraft design and construction to airport traffic management, the transition of the aeronautical industry involves several dimensions: ecological, technological and operational. To meet these challenges of the future, air transport professionals need training. That's why ENAC and ISAE-Supaero are working together to develop a specialized Master's degree for engineers.

A program to support aeronautical engineers in the transition to air transport

ISAE-Supaero stands for Institut Supérieur de l'Aéronautique et de l'Espace. ISAE-Supaero is a world leader in aerospace engineering.

ENAC, l'École Nationale de l'Aviation Civile (National Civil Aviation School) is Europe's largest aviation university.

The two organizations regularly train top-level engineers and professionals in most of the aeronautics and air transport professions. To develop this specialized Master's degree on the subject of aviation transitions, the two organizations are collaborating and tackling complementary themes.

The course is designed for French and international aerospace professionals. It is mainly aimed at people already working at engineering level. The program is designed to enable the acquisition of "new skills that can be put to immediate use".

The decarbonization of air transport is essential, not least to help reduce the sector's environmental impact. Aviation must step up its efforts to contribute to the Paris Climate Agreement, which aims to keep the global temperature rise below 2°C by 2050.

The aim is to successfully decarbonize all stages of an aircraft's life cycle (reducing energy consumption, improving fuel efficiency, optimizing trajectories and airport navigation, etc.).

The program also addresses the challenges of replacing fossil fuels, integrating new technologies and mass digitalization...

A specialized Master's degree 100% online and in English

The creation of this specialized Master's degree is in response to strong demand from the industry. To ensure that the content is in line with the needs of professionals in the sector, the two schools rely on ongoing interviews and contacts with employers. This diploma course also follows on from the great success of existing complementary courses on the subject of sustainable aviation.

The Master's program will be 100% online. Specific options can be added to the core curriculum. The choice of distance learning is designed to meet the needs of current professionals, particularly in terms of organization. With this digital formula in English, ISAE-Supaero and ENAC are able to address an international audience. These organizations hold the 4DIGITAL label from the Conférence des Grandes Écoles, as well as all the tools and experience required for this distance learning support.

The launch of the Specialized Master's program is scheduled for the start of the 2026 academic year. The full program will be announced after accreditation. In the meantime, other shorter, complementary distance learning courses will be offered on the theme of aeronautical transition.
