1. Stroll through the Grand-Place

Start your discovery of Brussels with the famous Grand-Place, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This emblematic square is surrounded by historic buildings with richly decorated facades that will fascinate children and parents alike. Stroll along the cobblestones, take time to admire the Town Hall and the King's House, and don't hesitate to look up to see the many sculptures and gildings.

For younger visitors, there's a little treasure hunt to be had, with the aim of finding the greatest number of gildings or figurines on the facades. Immersing yourself in this Gothic and Baroque architecture is the perfect way to soak up the atmosphere of Brussels.

2. Say hello to the Manneken-Pis (and its wardrobe)

Just a stone's throw from the Grand-Place, don't miss Manneken-Pis, the world-famous statuette-fountain. Children love looking for the sculpture in the street and discovering its incredible wardrobe (it has hundreds of different costumes!). Depending on the period of your visit, you may see him dressed in a costume related to a local or international event.

The Manneken-Pis is one of the symbols of Brussels. For the more curious, there's also a female version, Jeanneke-Pis, nearby. This mini-treasure hunt is particularly popular with little adventurers, who are always on the lookout for unusual finds.

3. Explore the Atomium and its panoramic view

Built for the 1958 Universal Exhibition, theAtomium is a must-see. Imagined as an enlarged representation of an iron molecule, this metal monument is made up of nine spheres linked by escalators or elevators, allowing you to explore several levels. At the top, you'll enjoy an exceptional panoramic view of the city.

Children will love the spectacular effect of this futuristic structure, while parents can discover the history of the Atomium in the permanent exhibition. The site also offers temporary exhibitions, often interactive, that will capture the attention of the whole family.

4. Discover Europe in miniature at Mini-Europe

Right next to the Atomium, Mini-Europe offers a fun and instructive experience. You'll find more than 300 models of Europe's main monuments, built on a scale of 1:25. Stroll from one country to another in just a few steps, and admire the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben, the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Acropolis in Athens.

Children will love the interactivity of the models: some reproductions are equipped with sounds and animations, such as an erupting volcano or ships sailing on water. This visit will awaken the curiosity of the youngest visitors and give them an insight into the cultural diversity of the Old Continent. Allow at least half a day if you want to take the time to discover everything.

5. Introduction to Belgian comics

Brussels is inextricably linked with comics: Tintin, Spirou, the Smurfs and Lucky Luke are all part of the local heritage. The Belgian Comic Strip Center, housed in a superb Art Nouveau building, offers a fascinating dive into the world of the 9ᵉ art. Between permanent and temporary exhibitions, you'll discover the history and behind-the-scenes of the creation of the most famous comic strips.

After the tour, go on a mural hunt around the city: many of Brussels' facades are adorned with life-size comic strips. You can download a map of these murals for a fun treasure hunt. Kids can even spot their favorite heroes on a street corner!

6. Enjoy Parc du Cinquantenaire and its museums

The Parc du Cinquantenaire is a vast green space ideal for relaxing with the family after a morning of sightseeing. Children can let off steam by running along the paths or enjoying the play areas, while parents can relax in the shade of the hundred-year-old trees.

The park is also home to several museums suitable for all ages, such as the Royal Army Museum and the Autoworld Museum. If your children love history and vintage vehicles, these visits are an excellent opportunity to learn while having fun.

7. Taste Belgian specialties (waffles, chocolates and French fries)
