Basic rules to know before booking a flight
Before booking a flight, take a moment to check the specific specific conditions for transporting on board. At Chalair, we accept small pets in the cabin (up to a certain weight), provided they are carried in a suitable crate.
Beyond the question of weight, you also need to think about the size of the container, the animal's comfort and the regulations in force depending on the destination. For example, a flight to Corsica will not pose the same constraints as a flight to Northern Ireland.

The transport case: its cocoon for the flight
The crate is your companion's mobile home 🐕. He must be able to stand up, turn around and lie down comfortably. It's also a regulatory requirement, especially if the animal travels in the cabin.
Remember to get your pet used to this crate before the big day. Leave it open at home with a few treats 🦴, his favorite toy 🧸 or a piece of clothing with your scent on it. This will help reduce his stress when the time comes.
Good to know: your pet 🐈 will have to stay in its crate for the whole flight. So it might as well be comfortable there!
Health formalities: no passport, no take-off!
Travelling means travel documents, and your pet is no exception. To prepare for air travel with pets, check that :
- His vaccination record is up to date (particularly for rabies);
- It is identified by microchip (compulsory to leave French territory);
- It has a European animal passport issued by a veterinarian.
Internationally, additional rules may apply (veterinary certificates, quarantine periods, etc.). Find out more in advance, especially for destinations outside the EU. A visit to the vet at least 10 days before your flight is generally recommended.

Avoid sedatives unless veterinary advice is given: they can have undesirable effects at altitude. Instead, rely on naturalness: a reassuring voice, presence and a familiar toy.
