1. The unmissable Brive market
The market in Brive-la-Gaillarde is a source of local pride. Voted one of the most beautiful markets in France, it is an unmissable culinary stop-off for discovering the gastronomic treasures of the Corrèze region.
Local produce takes centre stage on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. From 7.30 am to 1 pm, the Place du 14 Juillet and the Halle George Brassens come alive with a friendly atmosphere for this food market, which is brimming with culinary gems.
The Brive market also takes place on Saturday mornings, when it is even larger and more festive, bringing together over 200 stallholders whose stalls stretch all the way to the Place de la Guierle.
This culinary event is the perfect opportunity to discover the region’s famous specialities. You’re no doubt familiar with Périgord truffles and fattened poultry, but why not let yourself be tempted by Voutezac peaches, purple mustard or milhassou?

2. The Truffle Market
This is a seasonal event, taking place during the Brive Foires Grasses. The certified truffle market coincides with the harvest season for this ‘black diamond’. From early December to late February, fresh truffles are sold retail every Saturday morning in the Salle Brassens.
At the truffle market, the quality and traceability of this premium product are guaranteed by the presence of accredited inspectors appointed by the departmental federation of truffle growers.
In addition to the weekly market, every year on the first Saturday in January, the award-winning truffle fair is also held, in conjunction with the Foire des Rois.
3. The Halle Gaillarde
A unique venue, the Halle Gaillarde is a retail and dining space comprising solely stalls run by local traders. It is a building steeped in historical and gastronomic heritage, designed to revitalise the southern part of Brive by creating a vibrant market atmosphere.
Nicknamed the ‘Cathedral of Gastronomy’, the Halle Gaillarde is a showcase for local traders where you’ll find a wide selection of quality produce, ranging from butchers to delicatessens.
This gourmet destination, in the heart of Brive, invites you to savour local culinary specialities all year round: on the terrace to make the most of sunny days, or indoors, where the building’s architecture – a true local masterpiece – adds to the charm of the experience.
4. Local markets around Brive-la-Gaillarde
In the area around Brive-la-Gaillarde, you’ll find numerous weekly markets where you can buy seasonal produce and support local businesses during your stay in Corrèze.
If you’re a morning person, head to:
- On Fridays in Allassac, where fairs and markets are held on the Place de la République
- On the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month, just outside Brive, the forecourt of the church in Perpezac-le-Blanc hosts stalls run by local producers
- On Sundays, head to the Objat market, renowned for its range of local and regional produce, as well as its summer entertainment and the many outdoor cafés open for the occasion.
If you’ve had a busy day and prefer to take a leisurely stroll in the evening, these markets are just the thing for you:
- On the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month in Saint-Bonnet-L’Enfantier from 6 pm
- On Wednesdays in Noailles or Larche in the late afternoon from 5 pm
- On Thursdays from 4.30 pm to 6.00 pm, head to Vignols or Saint-Solve, alternating every other week
- On Fridays, from 4.30 pm, head over to Juillac
5. Festive events in Brive-la-Gaillarde and the surrounding area
The farmers’ markets in the Gaillard region also take place alongside festive events, particularly during the summer season. An excellent opportunity to enjoy the entertainment whilst sampling local produce.
The Guinguette du Causse market
These lively, festive and musical evenings take place every Sunday throughout the summer. Savour the food on offer from local producers before enjoying the concerts held on the shores of Lake Causse.
The Objat Wednesday Summer Market
In the Pays Gaillard, this festive event combines entertainment, a friendly atmosphere and local specialities. The ‘Mercredis d’Objat’, featuring musical performances, welcome you in July and August from 8 pm for unforgettable evenings.
